Question 5

Now you are going to apply what you have learned in class. As per the class discussion, please provide me with three different headlines for the story (article in Question #4) and outline your reasoning(s) and explanation for each. Please ensure you base your answer on the different elements of headlines we spoke about in class. Please go into detail for each. (12 Marks)

Headline 1:

The Future of ‘Dune’: Denis Villeneuve’s plans for ‘Dune Messiah’ Unveiled

This headline Starts with “The Future of ‘Dune’”, this is done to instantly get the attention of fans of the series as well as using that specific wording to leave open to the idea that the Dune series’ future might be endangered. After that section catches the viewers’ eyes the rest of the headline informs them of what the content actually offers them. “Denis Villeneuve’s plans for ‘Dune Messiah’ Unveiled,” this text tells the viewers that there is new information about this topic and that this article will inform you. The word “unveiled” makes the information seem as if it was previously hidden and secret and only now is it being revealed, this may lead the viewers to believe the content is exclusive and has information that other sites do not. Separating your web content from competitors is vital, with a sea of new content every day, convincing the viewer that you can offer something that others cannot is essential.

Headline 2:

Will Denis Villeneuve Continue the Epic Journey with ‘Dune: Messiah’?

This headline utilizes some similar strategies as the first, namely by putting the future of the movie Franchise into question. However, this headline uses the question format to connect with the viewer, by posing the same question that relevant viewers may have.

Headline 3

When will Dune Part 3 be released?

While the other articles both mention the name of the director and the name of the third book, this mostly appeals to viewers with a fair amount of base knowledge. This third headline is created to get the attention of the less knowledgeable viewer base, as a viewer who does not know who Denis Villeneuve is may simply skip over the headline. This headline also simplifies the question of “will there be a Dune 3” into something digestible. While this headline may appear to be mildly misleading, the article’s information focuses on the future of the series and the production of a potential next movie, meaning the content should satisfy the reader’s needs.
