Question 2

Find one (1) headline that you came across recently and thought it was great. Explain why it resonated with
you. Please ensure that you base your answers on topics discussed in class. (6 Marks)

To find an article headline that actually compelled me to click I spent time scrolling through Microsoft’s news page. Most articles I took a quick glance at and continued on until I read the headline: “How this popular Canadian ski resort cleans up the ‘dirty’ tourist industry..”  This headline caught my attention for a couple of reasons, first was relevancy as I had just gone to a Canadian ski resort one week prior to reading the headline. The second and stronger reason for its resonance was the phrasing and use of the word ‘dirty,’ with the headline keeping exactly what they are referring to vague enough for me to question what or who they are calling dirty. The strength of the headline actually lies in its vagueness, the only information it gives the reader is that the ski resort industry tourist consists of ‘dirty’ and that a specific Canadian ski resort is taking to remedy this. This statement leaves more questions than answers; what makes the ski tourist industry dirty? a sinister secret or something more mundane? These questions are what got me interested in stopping and clicking the link.
